In 1871 there were 102 households in Trunch with 202 men and 224 women giving a total of 426 people.
Trunch was still predominantly a farming village in 1871, with the Primrose family owning even more of the farm land - over half of the total acreage. 67 people gave their occupations as agricultural labourers but the enumerator did not distinguish between men and boys so the number was probably the same or very similar to 1861, with the addition of 3 farm stewards.
The other occupations were similar to 1861 with 8 associated with the brewery, 22 servants, 9 dressmakers, 5 shoemakers, 6 carpenters, 4 gardeners, 4 bricklayers, 4 grooms, 3 blacksmiths, 2 innkeepers, 2 shopkeepers, 2 butchers, 2 harness makers, 2 pensioners, and 1 each of :- schoolmaster, spirit merchant, clerk, horseman, game-keeper, thatcher, coachman, coal seller, rat-catcher, policeman, carter, postman, nurse, saw sharpener, hawker, rector, and 1 unemployed painter.
With regard to population mobility; over half of village residents were actually born in Trunch and there were only 14 people who were born outside Norfolk. Even these "foreigners" had mostly been born in other East Anglian counties, with just 4 from Devon, I from Cornwall and 1 from Kent.
